A man once asked the Prophet, “Who among the people is most deserving of my good companionship?” The Prophet replied, “Your mother.” The man asked again, “Then who?” The Prophet again replied, “Your mother.” When the man asked for the third time, the Prophet again said, “Your mother.” Only on the fourth time did the Prophet say, “Your father.” This narration emphasizes that the mother deserves the highest level of respect, care, and kindness.
Another powerful teaching in Islam states that “Paradise lies under the feet of mothers.” This well-known saying reflects the idea that serving, respecting, and caring for one’s mother can lead a person to great rewards in the hereafter. Islam teaches that obedience and kindness to a mother are acts of worship that bring blessings from Allah.
Islam also teaches that children should never speak harshly to their parents. The Qur’an instructs believers not even to say a word of irritation such as “uff” to them.
